Take the Jump is a movement that everyone can take part in, by trying seven shifts.

and let's do this together!

Our society is hooked on stuff and it’s destroying our planet. Often without even making our lives better. Another way is possible! Our goal is a world of less stuff and more joy, where humanity is in balance with nature - through helping achieve a two-thirds reduction in the impact of consumption in rich countries by 2030. Science shows this is what’s needed and that citizens can actually have a huge role in making it happen.

On their own, greener technology and policy can’t green fast enough to keep up. Not while our mindsets, our cultures, and our economic, political, and education systems are focused on ‘more stuff’. This has to change within ten years, starting with high consumption countries.

The science behind 'Take the Jump' makes it clear that, yes, government and business do have most responsibility for this deep shift, but citizens and communities have power too. The billions of people living in relative comfort can and must have an impact by making shifts by 2030: Eat Green, Dress Retro, End Clutter, Travel Fresh, Holiday Local, Get Planting and Change the System. No more confusion. Clear, practical and doable.

History shows that without positive examples and cultural pressure for the world we want, things will stay as they are.

Our plan is to spark a vibrant movement of normal people experimenting with living fully while in balance with nature. Coming together to make practical changes, support and inspire each other, celebrate success, and drive a shift in society’s mindsets and cultures. Showing politicians and businesses that positive change is both possible and wanted, now. It all starts today with citizens and communities ‘Taking The Jump’, by trying the Seven Shifts.

A joyous and connected international-movement of people ‘Taking The Jump’, by signing up to the seven shifts for at least one month.

We have the resources and community to help, with workshops, events and toolkits. Also ways to connect with others to get support and inspiration, such as regular meetings, online forums, local groups and community projects. All always in an atmosphere of humour, excitement & exploration, as set into the movement’s DNA through the 'Take the Jump' Foundations. Providing the opportunity for each of us to undergo the real, practical, and lasting change that science says is needed.

This starts to form a movement of citizens and communities coming together to create lives and places not defined by consumerism and the need for more and more stuff. But instead defined by creativity, caring, crafting, contentment, camaraderie, celebration, comedy, culture, connection, collaboration and community. The momentum of this better way of doing things will change the world around us.

This is much more than another ‘eco-fad’ or ‘trending moment’. This is the future we’re jumping to! And this is just the start! We still have much to learn and add. We’d love your energy, talent and feedback in growing and developing this movement and its offerings.

A grassroots movement created by normal people, ‘Take the Jump’ is for anyone who worries about the state of nature. You might not call yourself an ‘environmentalist’ but you’re looking for constructive, positive, and impactful steps to take in your own life.

'Take the Jump' is for anyone who worries about nature, whether or not you think of yourself as an ‘environmentalist’. For anyone looking for constructive, practical and impactful steps we can take in our own lives.

We can take the jump on our own, as a family or friends, or even as a business or institution. There are also local JUMP community groups forming all around.

Take the Jump is a welcome place for EVERYONE; no matter your cultural background, gender, sexuality, lived experience, location, or political leanings. At the same time, Take the Jump is clear that high consuming citizens and communities are the ones who must act quickest.

Take the Jump was created by a group of researchers, scientists, parents, and teachers who are deeply concerned about climate change.

We're using the latest science to back this up, including scientific research by one of our co-founders. Take the Jump is genuinely grassroots and citizen-led, and in NZ is supported by the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum.
